About the Local Area

Location

If you step outside the estate and take a short riverside walk you are in the heart of The Cotswolds. Awe-inspiring views combine with rolling hills and lush green meadows to offer some of the most picturesque countryside in Britain. There are some idyllic villages nearby as well as some charming Cotswold pubs where you can enjoy a pint by the fire or a Pimms in the garden. The market town of Lechlade is home to a popular family-friendly music festival and a churchyard that inspired Shelley while the picturesque medieval town of Burford was featured in Forbes list of Europe’s loveliest places to live.

Transport

The nearest towns are Fairford and Lechlade but it’s also only a short drive to the bigger centres of Cirencester (12 miles) and Swindon (13 miles). The closest train station is at Swindon which offers a direct service to London Paddington in less than an hour or else to Bristol Temple Meads in the other direction in less than 40 minutes The M4 sits alongside Swindon to the south and junction 15 can be reached by car in just 25 minutes giving access to the wider motorway network. Bristol can be reached in just over an hour by car while Heathrow Airport is just 1 hour 20 minutes should you wish to fly further afield.

Education

There are numerous educational facilities in the nearby towns and villages nearby including Fairford Church of England Primary which is Ofsted rated ‘outstanding’ and other C of E Primary Schools at Southrop and Kempsford. The independent Hatherop Castle School in Cirencester is also very well regarded. There are good secondary schools at Farmor’s School in Fairford, Cirencester Deer Park and Cirencester Kingshill as well as the independent Rendcomb College.

Health

The nearest hospitals are at Fairford and Cirencester but Great Western Hospital at Swindon is the largest in the region. There is a chemist, GP surgery, optician and dentist in Fairford and also a number of doctors surgeries and health centres in Cirencester including Phoenix Health, Cirencester Health and The Avenue Surgery.

Shopping & Leisure

The Lakes has something for everyone, whatever the season. Within walking distance to pubs and restaurants, it makes for the perfect retreat for families, groups, and couples alike.
